Lou Malnati's
~ 1971 ~

Famous for: Chicago-style Deep Dish Pizza

Founded by: Lou Malnati and his father, Rudy Malnati after leaving Pizzeria Uno

Rich in History. Rich in Flavor.

To the day the company is still family owned- in fact it’s Lou Malnati’s sons, Marc and Rick who took over the family business after Lou passed away in 1978.

Fun Foodie Facts:

  • Every year, the Malnati team hand selects California vine-ripened tomatoes for the perfect sweet and tangy taste for the sauce.
  • The fresh mozzarella cheese comes from the same small dairy that has supplied Lou Malnati’s for over 40 years.
  • The family’s secret recipe for flaky, buttery crust (aka Buttercrust) has been passed down from generation to generation.

Our recos:

Come back and splurge for the sausage deep-dish pizza. Their pork sausage is 90% lean and is often referred to as a “sausage patty”—that’s because unlike the traditional crumbled sausage on thin-crust pizzas, at Lou Malnati’s they spread out the sausage making sure to cover the cheese layer below but leaving some room so the cheese can bubble up through the sausage and the tomato layers.
