Labor Day — the official end of summer. Tear.

Not if we have anything to say about it! Celebrate the holiday weekend in true Chicago fashion with these Chicago-esque activities that’ll keep the summer fun going well into September (and hopefully beyond).

Chicago Jazz Festival

Thursday, August 31 – Sunday, September 3 (times vary by day — see schedule for details)

Since 1979, the Chicago Jazz Festival has been bringing local, national and international musicians together to inspire and educate jazz lovers of all ages. Taking place at the Chicago Cultural Center and Millennium Park, this free festival is one of summer’s best. Click here for a schedule of performances.

Fireworks at Navy Pier

Saturday, September 2 at 10:15pm

End summer with a bang at Navy Pier’s last free fireworks show of the summer. Or, if you really want to make it special, check out the  Architecture and/or Fireworks Cruises from Shoreline Sightseeing. Tickets range from $12 to $37 per person and can be purchased here.

Movies in the Park

Dates, times and park locations vary — check the schedule for details

Grab a blanket and some friends and enjoy the silver screen under the stars. Movies over Labor Day weekend include National Treasure and Top Gun.

Cruise Around Town on a Divvy Bike

Any time

You’ve certainly spotted a Divvy by now — those little blue bikes are everywhere around town. And by everywhere we literally mean eve-ry-where. With over 400 stations around Chicago and counting, it’s easy to get your Labor Day weekend ride on wherever you’re going.  An annual membership will run you a cool $75, while a 24-hour pass is only $7. BYOH (bring your own helmet).
