If you live in Chicago you know that the West Loop is definitely the place to go for evening drinks.  The majority of people are going to a cocktail or wine bar that sends you home with a pricey bill.  Don’t get me wrong, I love grabbing a fancy cocktail and trying some amazing wine, but there are truly a few great spots that are focusing on casual consumptions.

Emporium Fulton Market

Emporium is a West Loop favorite for many reasons; it’s an arcade bar, they have a wide variety of craft beers, and their cocktails are unique.  Basically Emporium is what many would call an upscale arcade bar because they are offering high quality beverages and excellent service.

What really makes Emporium a unique place to be is there continuous support of local brewery’s.  Take your family or friends to play a few games and grab a couple local brews from Revolution, Hopewell, Goose Island, Half Acre, and many more!

Haymarket Pub & Brewery

Beers, on beers, on beer, that’s what you can expect when walking into Haymarket.  Haymarket is truly a unique West Loop spot because they have their brew house and fermentation room on site for a pretty cool view from the bar and restaurant.  The beer is fresh from the source.  My personal favorite is the Lucy’s Belgian Tripel, with the ABV at 9.0 you’ll probably want to grab some food with this one ;).

The best way to pair this beer; stop in grab a growler of it, head down the block to the West Loop Salumi for some BYOB action.  House made salumi, locally brewed beer; there’s no better way to pair 2 of the West Loop’s classic spots!  If you want this full service experience set up for you check out our Gateway to the West Loop Food & Beverage Experience and we’ll take care of all your West Loop indulging needs.

Lone Wolf Tavern

Lone Wolf is about as casual as you can get in the West Loop.  They offer craft cocktails, but also have food items such as; a Chicago Style hot dog, grilled cheese, and fried pickles.  There is nothing better than being at the bar at Lone Wolf, enjoying some late night cocktails, all while knowing if you get the late night munchies a $5 hot dog is waiting at your service.

Overall, my particular favorite cocktail here is the Beergarita.  What could be better than a cocktail and beer all in one?  This Lone Wolf specialty features Lunazule Blanco Tequila, Brooklyn Lager, and Lime.  Classic, simple, and purely delicious.  When is the West Loop there is no better way to end your night than swinging by Lone Wolf for a night cap.

If you didn’t know before reading this blog, the West Loop is restaurant mecca in Chicago right now.  We, at Chicago Food Planet, love eating with our guests throughout the neighborhood.  However, if you’re really feeling nostalgic and need some classic Chicago bites than River North is the place to be.

The Best in Chow is Chicago Food Planet’s famous food’s of Chicago experience.  If you loved the Chicago Style hot dog at Lone Wolf just wait until you stop by Portillo’s on this Food Experience.  Whether you’re a tourist or a local with family coming into town, there is no better way to cover all of the Chicago Classic eats than the Best in Chow – you’ll get a taste of everything in just 3 hours!
